چکیده
That fishers’ ecological knowledge (FEK) can contribute to the sustainability and legitimacy of environmental planning management is widely accepted. Nevertheless, despite this broad consensus about its importance, there uncertainty ways in which FEK be captured methodologically. Here, we present results a methodological inquiry aimed connect diversity work practices within fisheries. Using sample from qualitative study Swedish small-scale fishers, test what extent new combination concept method – Fishing Style analysis Structure-Dynamic-Function framework produce insights into partiality FEK, as well embodied tacit aspects. Results demonstrate how different generate variety FEKs. We use finding discuss implications our for future attention inform management.

Fishing down and fishing hard: ecological change in the Nile perch of Lake Nabugabo, Uganda
Fishing is a potent ecological force. In Lake Victoria, East Africa, Nile perch, Lates niloticus contributes to a multi-million dollar fishing industry but is threatened by over-exploitation. We quantified spatial and temporal trends in the distribution, diet and size of Nile perch in Lake Nabugabo, Uganda, a satellite of Lake Victoria. From 1995 to 2007, we detected a decline in catch per unit...

A recurring pattern of declining mean trophic level of fisheries landings, termed "fishing down the food web," is thought to be indicative of the serial replacement of high-trophic-level fisheries with less valuable, low-trophic-level fisheries as the former become depleted to economic extinction. An alternative to this view, that declining mean trophic levels indicate the serial addition of lo...
متن کاملMarket Integration and the Distribution of Ecological Knowledge within an Ecuadorian Fishing Community
Scholars typically depict traditional ecological knowledge as a vanishing resource, negatively correlated with the capitalization of a community. The default view also tends to conceptualize such knowledge as one cohesive system, unitarily responsive to external forces. Using data from an artisanal shrimping community in Ecuador, this paper argues that current views are not sufficient to captur...

Colin Clark made seminal contributions in both resource economics and behavioral ecology. In the former, he showed how to link biological and economic factors in a consistent mathematical framework, virtually creating the field of mathematical bioeconomics single-handedly. In the latter, he was a major contributor of the introduction of state variable methods for modeling the behavior and life ...
